Quick Note: Another State Loses Its Fight Against Marriage Equality

Late yesterday, Judge Chris Piazza of the Arkansas Sixth District Court struck down that state's ban on same-sex marriage.  In his ruling he said, "Arkansas marriage laws discriminate against same-sex couples in violation of the Equal Protection Clause because they do not advance any conceivable legitimate state interest necessary to support even a rational-basis review....(It is) an unconstitutional attempt to narrow the definition of equality."

Judge Piazza did not issue a stay on his decision, meaning that same-sex couples could begin marrying immediately.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel (D) said he supports marriage equality, but in his capacity as Attorney General he must defend the law and so he will file an appeal.
Opponents of same-sex marriage rights have held a losing hand for months now.  Not one case brought before a federal judge has been decided in the opponent's favor. This does not make me sad.
