Forget Economic Oversight - Just Make Sure There Are Enough Pencils!

This is an addendum to my post of Sunday, June 10.

Before leaving Washington for this week’s recess, the House of Representatives passed judgment on a few more important pieces of legislation. They voted to reduce the budget for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, refused to budget funds for the Securities and Exchange Commission that are needed to carry out the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill and cut funds that had been designated for repairs on the Capitol dome. They also passed a piece of legislation increasing their individual office budgets.

what eye thynk: So the Republican led house wants to nix any new oversight on the stock market or banking industries, effectively allowing them to operate in the same way that brought about our 2008 economic meltdown.

At least when the country implodes and the Capitol dome falls on their heads, our Representatives will have enough paper clips.

I feel better already.

  1. I like the way that you connect the dots. To me, the Republican Congress has little regard for anything having to do with the economy and the unemployment rate.
I'm not in the 'know' but, anyone who has, even a modicum of cognizant thought, can see who is dictating policy to this sitting Republican Congress.
It isn't the working class telling them to ignore these things. It isn't the working class telling them lift oversight from the Banking industry. It isn't the working class aping every word and/or gesture of big oil. Check this out:
"Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) led a letter with 13 colleagues to the Super Committee urging consideration of his “Close Big Oil Tax Loopholes Act” S. 940 as part of a deficit reduction compromise. The bill called for the elimination of more than $21 billion in oil subsidies for the five largest, most profitable private oil companies in the world. The bill received a majority vote in the Senate (52-48) but did not pass due to a Republican filibuster." end of quote.
They earn billions virtualy tax free while we pay more and more for a gallon of fossil fuel.

This lock-step Congress seems to have lost sight of "We The People".
This congress has lost sight of other things too: compromise, and things done in and for the public interest.
This sitting republican controlled congress has not one damn thing to help "we the people". It's all been for the 1%. Every single word, speech, lie... All of it for the ultra rich.
