Ted Cruz Wants You to Know: He Loves Jesus

Ted Cruz was the first to announce his 2016 candidacy for President of the United States. He made the announcement at Liberty University, which calls itself "the largest Christian university in the world...steadfast in its commitment to "Training Champions for Christ."

Over the past weekend--16 months before the 2016 election and timed so he would get maximum coverage over Easter weekend and during the Fox TV series "Killing Jesus"--he continued pandering to the Christian far-right by releasing his first TV ad titled "Blessings." The 30 second ad pans across pictures of Ted and his family praying.  The text:
"Were it not for the transformative love of Jesus Christ, I would have been raised by a single mom without my father in the household.  God's blessing has been on America from the very beginning of this nation.  Over and over again, when we faced impossible odds, the American people rose to the challenge.  This is our fight, and that is why I'm running for President of the United States. I'm Ted Cruz, and I approve this message."
what eye thynk:  His over the top, I'm-a-conservative-Christian message aside, this might be a good time to examine what and who Mr. Cruz actually supports.

It's not women.  He demonstrated his antipathy for equal pay for equal work by taking part in the Republican filibuster on the Democrat's equal pay bill last August.  He opposes any abortion rights even in cases of rape or incest.  He doesn't even believe women should have access to contraception, telling last fall's Value Voters Summit that he views contraception as "abortion-inducing."

He is vehemently against gay rights.  He condemned Houston, his hometown, for passing a non-discrimination ordinance to protect its LGBT citizens and praised Indiana's Governor Mike Pence for refusing to consider adding state-wide protection for gays under its civil rights law. In Iowa, he told followers that a Supreme Court ruling to legalize gay marriage would be "fundamentally illegitimate,"

He is against immigration reform and he is against gun regulations.  He voted against the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, wants to repeal "Obamacare," doesn't believe in the science of climate change, voted against the Water Resources Development Act and wants to reduce the influence of the EPA. He would like to eliminate the IRS and cut social programs, "We are not doing anybody a favor by giving them welfare."

His foreign affairs experience can be summed up by saying he signed the Senate 47's letter to Iran.

In short, other than Jesus, Ted Cruz doesn't seem to be FOR anything.

During his speech announcing his candidacy, he made a special plea to conservative Christians: "Roughly half of born again Christians aren't voting...But imagine millions of people of faith coming out to the polls and voting our values.  Think how different the world will be."

I'd rather think how different the world would be if conservative Christians acted like followers of Christ.  I would be for that.
