Are Conservatives Really Pro-Life? Or Are They Playing God?

what eye thynk:  A politician--what amounts to being a publicly paid salesman--is not an M.D.  This is what happens when we allow salesmen to make medical decisions.

Savita Halappanavar died in Ireland last year after the choice was made to protect her fetus rather than protect her life.  Now they're both dead.

A seven-month study was released in June. (Any underlines are mine.)

"The 108-page report into the October death of Savita Halappanavar documented what the lead investigator described as 'a cascade of mistakes' overshadowed by officials' refusal to remove the fetus until its heart stopped beating.

That took four days.  By then, the report found, the woman's ill-diagnosed sepsis from a ruptured uterus already had reached lethal levels...

...The report found that when Haappanavar, a 31-year-old Indian dentist living in the western city of Galway, was hospitalized for back pain 17 weeks into her pregnancy, doctors identified she was miscarrying and the fetus could not survive...

...She delivered a dead fetus four days into her hospitalization, and fell into a coma and died of massive organ failure four days later."

This should be a cautionary tale for those Republican presidential candidates who say they would deny a woman her right to an abortion even to save the life of the mother.
  • Scott Walker: It's a false choice.  There is always a better option out there.
  • Marco Rubio: I don't say it's easy, but when asked to make a decision between two very hard circumstances, I personally reached the decision, if I'm going to err, I'm going to err on the side of life.
  • Rick Santorum:  Saving the life of the mother a "phony" excuse.
  • Ben Carson: Abortion to save the life of the mother is "largely a spurious argument."
  • Rand Paul: Says there could be exceptions, but he is not in favor of a "health of the mother" exception.
When, in an effort to look more conservative than the other guy, you take it upon yourself to attempt to legislate who lives and who dies,  you are playing God.

Please, look in the mirror, boys.  You're not qualified.
