In a statement to the police, Scott Leader justified the assault by saying, "Donald Trump was right--all these illegals need to be deported."
Mr. Trump was asked about the case during a press conference in New Hampshire. He responded, "I haven't heard about that. It would be a shame, but I haven't heard about that." Following some mumbling from the people in front of him, he added, "I will say that people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again. They are passionate. I will say that, and everybody here has reported it."
what eye thynk: Where's the condemnation for the act of brutalizing another human being? Where's the statement that beating people is a total misinterpretation of your intent to deport all illegal immigrants (hopefully physically intact) through legal government order? Instead he essentially patted himself on the back for rousing passion in his lemmings and made the media complicit by writing about him.
According to Mr. Trump's reaction, the acts of people like the Leader brothers should be overlooked because they are "passionate" in their support of his every word; and if people let their passion carry them too far, well, that just shows how much they love America. In Donald Trump's vision, your worth would be judged by how you look; and if you're "different," then you should expect to be accosted by those who more closely resemble white America's physical ideal. (Does anyone hear Hitler ranting in the background?)
Would it be too much to expect a man who aspires to be the leader of the United States of America to stand up and say he never intended for gangs of "A Clockwork Orange" copycats to roam the streets looking for anyone with dark hair or ruddy skin?
Judging by Mr. Trump's reaction, the answer is yes. Yes, it would.
