Planned Parenthood--When the Facts Don't Support Your Narrative, Ignore the Facts

what eye thynk:  Let's start with some facts:

Planned Parenthood is not selling pieces of aborted babies.  With the consent of the women under their care, PP is donating aborted fetal tissue for use in medical research.  A law passed twenty-two years ago with overwhelming bi-partisan support--the 1993 Senate vote was 93-4--permits abortion facilities like Planned Parenthood to recoup the cost of storing and transporting the tissue

The videos that have kept conservatives in a dither all summer have all been debunked as cleverly edited fakes.  Investigations in Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, South Dakota and Pennsylvania concluded that Planned Parenthood has not broken any laws.

Then let's actively decide to ignore them:

Twenty-eight Republican Representatives have chosen to ignore the law and investigation results and have signed a letter, currently being circulated by the conservative group Heritage Action for America (under the umbrella of the Koch brothers funded Heritage Foundation) urging Congress to defund Planned Parenthood.

"In light of recent and horrific revelations that Planned Parenthood is trafficking in fetal tissue and body parts from abortions, we urge you not to schedule or facilitate the consideration of any legislation that authorizes or appropriates federal dollars for Planned Parenthood."

Discounting the negative blowback from that little snafu back in 2013 when Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) orchestrated a government shutdown in a failed GOP attempt to defund "Obamacare," Republican congressmen in both chambers are once again closeting themselves with Mr. Cruz to discuss another government shutdown, this time in an attempt to defund Planned Parenthood.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who, as leader of the GOP House caucus, is in a position to put a damper on this really, really bad idea, has chosen instead to stand with the fact-adverse faction mustering on his right to perpetuate the myth that PP is somehow involved in the backroom trafficking of aborted babies.

"The goal here is not to shut down the government.  The goal is to stop these horrific practices of organizations selling baby parts."

I guess he expects us to believe that, if Republicans follow Mr. Cruz down the shutdown rabbit hole once again, it will come about, not because it was a "goal", but the end result of a noble obligation endured with honesty, generosity and courage.

Donald Trump is already doing a pretty good job of destroying the GOP's presidential aspirations; but it's nice to know current Republican lawmakers have his back.
