Quote(s) for Monday, October 12

Republican presidential candidate John Kasich says that only those who espouse belief in one of the worlds "great religions" can live a morally upright life, that those who identify as secularists cannot possibly know right from wrong.

Last Tuesday, Mr. Kasich told the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce:

"If we become secularists when we face a radical Islam that is the farthest thing from secularist, when we can't unite with our friends in the Jewish, Muslim and Christian community to espouse a set of values that is the true way for human beings to conduct their lives and live their lives, we will be in a very severe crisis point.

The sense of right and wrong that comes from the great religions is something the West should begin to pay attention to..."

Yes, Mr. Kasich, let us all aspire to become a person with a "sense of right and wrong that comes from (one of) the great religions."  Someone like ultra-conservative "Christian" televangelist Jim Bakker, for example.

Some quotes from Mr. Bakker's TV show this week:

  • Jim Baker:  "Planned Parenthood means kill the babies..."
  • Guest Pastor Rick Wiles: A former Satanist told me he "performed 164 Satanic rituals inside of abortion clinics."
You sure it wasn't 163?  Or maybe 167?  Adding details to a lie is a classic way to make it seem more believable.  Ask any police investigator.
  • Co-host Lori Bakker:  "Absolutely!  I can't prove it because I wasn't there.. I will tell you, especially on Halloween, that many many many many Satanic rituals--abortion rituals--are performed.  It's the truth...  I've had women sit as close as Jim is to me, as you are to me, crying, screaming from their innermost being because they were in those Satanic rituals where their babies were aborted."
She wasn't there, but she knows it's the truth--her second cousin's boyfriend's father's uncle's third wife's hairdresser told her about it--absolutely! And, isn't it amazing that when all these women sat close to her to express their anguish, none of their cameras were functioning?  If I didn't know better, I'd think the Devil had his hand in that.
  • Wiles: "Because murder is illegal, they have to find a way to have a sacrifice that are (sic) human.  And so because America has abortion, therefore, they're doing these human sacrifices in an abortion clinic because it gives them a legal covering."

Trust me, Mr. Kasich, I don't need to hear anymore of this type of bulls**t to know that the morality expressed by a modern, caring atheist far out-strips anything being uttered by these fine examples of the followers of one of your "great religions."

Morality has nothing--NOTHING...N.O.T.   O.N.E.   T.H.I.N.G.--to do with faith.  The sooner you accept that, the sooner the arrogant "Christian" right in this country start acting like followers of Christ and accept that, the sooner this country--Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Wiccan, agnostic, and atheist--can get back to working TOGETHER to love and support ALL Americans equally, as only a wholly moral and secular society can.
