Another Gun Massacre, Just Another Day in America.

"A disgusted and angry President Obama responded to the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon...

...'Somehow this has become routine.  The reporting is routine.  My response here at this podium ends up being routine... We've become numb to this.  We talked about this after Columbine, and Blacksburg, after Tuscon, after Newtown, after Charleston...

...And what's become routine, of course, is the response of those who oppose any kind of common sense gun legislation.  Right now, I can imagine the press releases being cranked out.  We need more guns; they'll argue.  Fewer gun safety laws.

Does anybody really believe that?

There are scores of responsible gun owners in this country.  They know that's not true.  We know because of the polling that says the majority of Americans say we should be changing these laws, including the majority of responsible gun owners.  There is a gun for every man, woman, and child in America. So how can you with a straight face make the argument that more guns will make us safer?'...

...At some point, the insanity must stop.  The reality is that only the voters have the power to elect individuals who will not be owned by the gun industry."

eye'm thynkin':  For those politicians who will parrot whatever talking points the NRA is preparing for them this evening, for those conservative pundits who will be all over the media in the coming days proposing that the answer is more guns!--"Let's arm every teacher! Let's arm every bus driver! Let's require every student in every school in America to carry a gun in their backpack! Let's put assault weapons in the projector booths in movie theaters!  Let's issue a firearm to every restaurant server, every WalMart clerk, every grocery store cashier! MORE GUNS, MORE, MORE!"--I want to ask you a question:

Do you think we could eliminate illegal drug trafficking by recruiting more drug dealers to sell more drugs?  Or eradicate drunk driving deaths by convincing more drivers to drive drunk? If your answer is "No, that's ridiculous," then what makes you think more guns is the answer to our gun violence problem?
