G.O.P. = Gormless Oblivious Politicians

what eye thynk:  Yesterday I shared a post about Donald Trump's Friday appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe: Trump On Oregon Shootings: "These Things Happen"  Later on Friday, Jeb (I Am the Smarter Brother) Bush added to his catalog of gaffs by making a similar...but I think worse...statement.

Participating in a Conservative Leadership Project forum in Greenville, South Carolina, Jeb was asked about the Umpqua tragedy and President Obama's renewed call for common sense gun regulations.  His shameful response: "I had this challenge as governor because we had--look, stuff happens.  There's always a crisis and the impulse is always to do something, and it's not necessarily the right thing to do."

Later, a reporter questioned whether his callous remark had, perhaps, been a mistake; and Jeb proved himself to be even more dimwitted:  "It wasn't a mistake.  I said exactly what I said," he replied, before asking the reporter to point out "what I said wrong....Things happen all the time.  Things.  Is that better?"

No, you brainless oaf, "better" would be to demonstrate some human compassion, some genuine concern.  "Better" would be to indicate that you support doing something--anything--to put a halt to these senseless calamities. "Better" would be a shout-out to your pro-gun buddies that the time has come to choose American lives over NRA cash.  But instead, you equated ten American lives with money: "You don't solve the problem by passing a law, and you're imposing a large number of people burdens that make it harder for our economy to grow..." and, predictably, "...make it harder to protect liberty."

Whose "liberty" you intend to protect was made obvious when you chose to infuse the conversation with boasts of how you had once personally received a gun from former NRA president Charlton Heston.  While the rest of the country is mourning the senseless loss of ten innocent Americans, you fondly recalled your pro-gun record as governor of Florida and the awards you had received from the NRA.

When President Obama was asked to respond to Jeb's "stuff happens" remark he said, "I don't even think I have to react to that one.  The American people should hear that and make their own judgments."

Following the President's response, Mr. Bush's Official Gaff-Repair Team, (perhaps realizing that there was no fixing Jeb's latest "oops,") took the opportunity instead to slam the President, "It is sad and beyond craven that liberal Democrats, aided and abetted by some in the national media, would dishonestly take Governor Bush's comments out of context in a cheap attempt to advance their political agenda in the wake of a tragedy," spokesperson Allie Brandenburger said in an email.

Well, at least someone on the Bush team recognizes that something tragic happened in Oregon this week.    Too bad it's not "The Man Who Would Be President."
