Leading right-wing politicians fuel this hatred, brainless bigots swallow it whole and pass it down to their children.  When something happens--and it will--the parents will be all over the news looking for someone to blame, saying they can't understand how their son/daughter ever came to act that way, refusing to acknowledge the acorn settled right next to their tree.  And the politicians who started it will be sending "thoughts and prayers" and refusing to acknowledge that they were the arborists who planted the tree in the first place.
